This area of the site is to provide information on the work our SENCO has been doing to support those parents with a child with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND).
Rothwell Schools and SEND
At Rothwell Schools we pride ourselves on being Inclusive Schools. We get to know our children with SEND as individuals so that we can put in place what we need to, to meet their specific needs.
If your child has SEND this is what you can expect from us –

Northamptonshire Specialist Support Service
Northamptonshire Specialist Support Service offers advice and support to children, yound people, families, carers and a range of educational establishments for children with a wide range of special educational needs and/or autism, aged 0-19 years.
Northamptonshire Specialist Support Services also offers a number of courses and workshops for parents. These can be viewed here -
Children and families requiring more in depth individual support can then be referred to Northamptonshire Specialist Support Service by school or themselves using the link above. Please speak to Miss Loomes if you feel that this is something that would help you.
The Local Offer
The purpose of the Local Offer is to enable parents and young people to find out more easily the services that are available in their area and how to access them. The Local Offer includes provision from birth to 25 across education, health, social care and the voluntary sector. To access the Local Offer website please use the following link -

Our School Dog, Ted
Our school dog, Ted, is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and belongs to our Inclusion Manager, Miss Loomes. Ted comes to school every day and spends most of his time in The Nest or in Miss Loomes’ office. Children from across the school visit him and take him for walks. Children are accompanied by an adult at all times during their interactions with Ted. Ted is an excellent support for children that are feeling anxious, children that are finding it difficult to engage in class and children with SEND. He has a huge impact on pupil and staff wellbeing. Children's comments include 'he helped me to not be scared of dogs', 'he's cute and makes me smile' and 'he helps me to calm down'. Parents and carers are invited to let us know of any allergies, phobias or other reasons that they would like their child not to interact with Ted.
Every morning, we provide Sensory Circuits for children with SEND, children who need support with concentration and children with sensory processing difficulties. The children enjoy these sessions and their comments include that 'Sensory Circuits help me to calm down', 'they help me to wake up each morning', 'sensory circuits help me to get stronger' and 'they help me with my work' The teachers have found that Sensory Circuits help the children to concentrate and come to class ready to learn.
Every Wednesday, our Inclusion Manager, Miss Loomes, and our Family Support Worker, Mrs Browne hold a coffee morning. All parents, carers and child minders from both schools are very welcome to attend and are asked for their input on what they would like the focus for the sessions to be. Guest speakers are regularly invited from other agencies such as the school nursing team, health visitors and Independent Advice and Support for SEN.
